DMM Pictures has officially announced that Mitsuki Mii’s romantic comedy manga Kusunoki’s Flunking Her High School Glow-Up (Kusunoki-san wa Kōkō Debut ni Shippai Shite Iru) is being adapted into a television anime.

The main voice cast has been revealed, featuring Yūto Uemura in the role of Keisuke Shizuki and Tomori Kusunoki as Shizuka Kusunoki.
Behind the scenes, Midori Yui (known for episode direction on Carole & Tuesday, Love Flops, and Asteroid in Love) is directing the series at Passione and Hayabusa Film, while also handling series composition. Koji Haneda (Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf, The Faraway Paladin) is designing the characters, and Hyadain (all seasons of Rent-A-Girlfriend) is composing the musical score. Suzune Ishikawa serves as the animation producer.
For international fans, Kodansha USA Publishing handles the English release of the original manga series, outlining the premise:
Keisuke Shizuki and Shizuka Kusunoki appear to be high school royalty thanks to their striking good looks, but they share a secret past: both were total outcasts during middle school. While Shizuki successfully reinvented himself inside and out to bury his awkward history, Kusunoki still struggles with the social skills needed to match her new stylish appearance. Desperate to catch up, she turns to Shizuki for help—if only he could overcome his lingering phobia of attractive girls…
Kodansha USA Publishing launched the sixth volume of the manga in both digital and print formats on May 19.
Mitsuki Mii originally launched the manga on the comic POOL platform in 2022. Ichijinsha is set to release the series’ eighth compiled book volume in Japan on July 28.
