Spike Chunsoft has announced a revised release schedule for the Xbox Series X|S version of MAGES.’ upcoming title, Steins;Gate Re:Boot. Originally slated for August 20, the Xbox version has been pushed back to October 29 so that its launch aligns with the western release dates of the other console editions.
When the title drops on August 20, it will be available in Japan across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, the successor Switch console, and PC via Steam. Meanwhile, Western players on PC will also get the game on August 20, while Western fans using the PS5, PS4, Switch, and next-gen Switch will receive the game on the newly adjusted October 29 date alongside the Xbox Series X|S release.
Fans looking for physical copies will have options for both a standard version and a special Steelbook edition. The Steelbook variant features brand-new artwork crafted by original character designer huke, alongside a bonus sticker included in the initial print run.
Under the hood, the project incorporates M2’s E-Mote animation system to bring 2D artwork to life. Frequently utilized in visual novels, this middleware enables developers to inject nuanced, detailed expressions directly into character sprites.
Initially announced for a 2025 debut before being pushed to 2026, Steins;Gate Re:Boot introduces several updates to the classic experience. Character designs have been refreshed with new outfits and accessories by huke, who also oversaw the creation of the event stills. The setting faithfully recreates the Akihabara district of 2010 while introducing entirely new locations and scenes not found in the original 2009 release, highlighted by an all-new "Gamma Worldline" narrative route.
The broader franchise milestone kicked off in October 2024 with a 15th-anniversary promotional film bearing the message, "Steins;Gate will continue."
The original Steins;Gate debuted in 2009 as the second entry in MAGES.’ (formerly 5pb.) Science Adventure series. It spawned a critically acclaimed 2011 television anime, the 2013 sequel film Steins;Gate – The Movie – Load Region of Déjà Vu, and the 2018 alternate-retelling series Steins;Gate 0, alongside numerous spin-offs, sequels, and manga adaptations. Additionally, the broader property has previously inspired plans for a Hollywood live-action television adaptation announced in 2020, alongside development on a Steins;Gate 0 Elite project.
