Kadokawa is rolling out another character showcase for the upcoming anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The KADOKAWAanime YouTube channel has dropped the eighth character promo for Sekiro: No Defeat, this time shining the spotlight on the legendary swordsman and clan patriarch, Isshin Ashina.
Set twenty years prior to the events of the game, the narrative highlights Isshin’s rise to power following a bloody coup that secured Ashina’s independence. In the present day of the story, an aging and ailing Isshin watches as his lands face an imminent invasion by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the same time, his grandson, Genichiro, resorts to forbidden methods to protect the clan—a path that the legendary founder staunchly opposes.
Voice actor Tetsuo Kanao returns to reprise his iconic role from the original FromSoftware title.
Sekiro: No Defeat adapts the critically acclaimed video game into a striking hand-drawn 2D anime. The project is being brought to life by studio Qzil.la, with Ken’ichi Kutsuna in the director’s chair, Takuya Sato penning the script, and Takashi Mukoda choreographing the action sequences.
Fans in Japan can catch a limited three-week theatrical run starting September 4, 2026. A global streaming release will follow on Crunchyroll, though an exact digital premiere date has not yet been confirmed.
