New Fairy Princess Minky Momo OVA Casts Tomohito Takatsuka, Yōko Hikasa – News

The official website for Mahō no Princess Minky Momo Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo (Fairy Princess Minky Momo: A Duo of Sincerity Toward a Dream of Longing) revealed on Friday that Tomohito Takatsuka and Yōko Hikasa are joining the cast of the upcoming original video anime (OVA). Takatsuka will voice the young man Rubato, while Hikasa will portray the boy Peter, with both characters playing pivotal roles in the plot.

The narrative unfolds in Diginarsa, a mystical realm of dreams and hopes that relies on dream energy to survive. However, as humanity’s dreams and hopes begin to fade, the realm’s energy plummets, pushing Diginarsa to the brink of destruction. In a desperate bid for salvation, the king dispatches three companions—Chamocha, Dettabook, and Pipirupi—to enlist the help of Minky Momo.

On her 12th birthday, a girl named Momo is gifted a smartphone. Upon meeting the king’s companions, she awakens as Minky Momo and vows to save Diginarsa. As she gathers dream energy, a mysterious app surges in popularity across the city. Yet, the dreams children share on the app turn out to be shallow fantasies fueled solely by vanity, attention-seeking, and view counts, prompting Momo to question the true nature of everyone’s aspirations.

Ayumu Watanabe (Witch Hat Atelier, Akane-banashi, Space Brothers) is directing the project at Ashi Production. Character designs are being handled by Hiroshi Watanabe, the main animator of the original 1982–1983 anime, alongside Mari Tominaga, a key animator from Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories. Deko Akao (Arakawa Under the Bridge, Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream) is penning the script, Katsunori Shimizu (Magical Girl Ore, Citrus) is the sound director, Zack Promotion handles sound production, and Tomoki Hasegawa (Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories, Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!) is composing the music. Studio Live is credited for design cooperation, while MOVIC and Giggly Box are managing distribution.

The film is slated to premiere in Japanese theaters on November 13.

This upcoming release marks the Fairy Princess Minky Momo franchise’s first new anime in 32 years, following 1994’s Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories.

William Winckler Productions previously released the 1982–1983 television series as English-dubbed features on Amazon Instant Video in 2015, summarizing the plot as follows: a magical princess is sent to Earth to help people recover lost hopes and dreams. Known on Earth as "Gigi," she embarks on amazing adventures aided by her magical dog, monkey, and bird.

The original TV series spawned a 1991–1992 sequel and several OVAs. Harmony Gold USA released the Fairy Princess Minky Momo: La ronde in my dream OVA in English under the title Gigi and the Fountain of Youth, and Crunchyroll added the original television anime to its streaming catalog in January 2024.
