The digital manga platform MANGA MIRAI has announced that it will officially shut down on December 15 (PT). Current users are being instructed to migrate their accounts and previously purchased manga to MangaPlaza, a service operated by NTT Solmare. All account and library transfers must be completed by September 30.
According to MANGA MIRAI, users may qualify for a refund under specific conditions: if MangaPlaza does not hold the distribution licenses for certain titles they previously bought, if the user is under MangaPlaza’s 18+ age restriction, or if they simply choose not to transfer their account data.
MANGA MIRAI originally debuted in the United States in March 2025 as a collaborative venture between Media Do, NTT Docomo, the Akatsuki Group, and MyAnimeList. The platform allowed readers to buy manga by the single volume or chapter, with content accessible through web browsers as well as dedicated iOS and Android apps.
Designed to bridge the gap between anime and manga fandoms, the platform featured official English translations of previously unreleased stories alongside original manga titles, helping fans discover new series.
Behind the scenes, responsibilities for the platform were split among its creators: NTT Docomo served as the primary service provider, MyAnimeList handled marketing and integrated the platform directly into its website, the Akatsuki Group managed development, maintenance, and operations, and Media Do partnered with publishers and translators to secure content.
Notably, Media Do—which originally acquired MyAnimeList in 2019—sold its entire stake in the anime database and community site to the Tokyo-based Web3 and AI firm Gaudiy shortly after MANGA MIRAI’s launch in early 2025.
