An exciting new lineup of model kits is on the horizon for Neon Genesis Evangelion enthusiasts, and the first release looks phenomenal.
According to Toy People, Mecha Smile—a sub-brand of Good Smile Company—has officially introduced its brand-new DX-Scale plastic model kit series. Launching in June 2027, the inaugural release for the line will be Evangelion Unit-01, modeled after its design in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. Fans will be able to choose between Standard and Luminous Set Editions.
Evangelion Unit-01 Gets a Massive New DX-Scale Model Kit
The DX-Scale Evangelion Unit-01 model kit gives builders and collectors the opportunity to assemble their very own replica of the iconic mecha, drawing direct inspiration from the striking Evangelion Unit-01 statue featured in the Shin Japan Heroes Universe. This particular iteration boasts a sharper, more muscular build paired with a vibrant, intense color scheme.
Standing at approximately 26 centimeters tall once completed, the DX-Scale Evangelion Unit-01 features full articulation to support a wide range of dynamic action poses. Alongside standard joint mobility in the torso and limbs, the model includes a articulated jaw, a selection of interchangeable hands, and iconic weapons like the Spear of Cassius, a Pallet Rifle, and a Progressive Knife.
For those looking for something extra, the Luminous Set Edition comes packed with two standalone blacklights and an additional, light-up interchangeable head. Matching the model’s 26-centimeter height, the blacklights can be individually angled to make the mecha’s fluorescent color accents pop.
The Standard Set Edition carries a retail price of ¥9,800 (roughly $62), while the Luminous Set Edition will be priced at ¥12,800 (around $80). Pre-orders for both versions are expected to open soon.
The Rebuild of Evangelion cinematic tetralogy began in 2007 with Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. Spearheaded by Studio Khara, the opening film functioned largely as a scene-for-scene reimagining of the first six episodes of the classic Neon Genesis Evangelion TV anime, earning widespread praise from both viewers and critics alike.
Following that debut, the iconic sci-fi saga continued across three subsequent feature films: Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (2009), Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (2012), and the grand finale, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (2021). The final installment proved to be an unprecedented commercial and critical smash hit, pulling in more than $93 million globally while securing a flawless 100% “Fresh” score from critics and a top-tier audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Both the Standard and Luminous Set Editions of the DX-Scale Evangelion Unit-01 from Good Smile Company and Mecha Smile officially hit shelves in June 2027.
