Crunchyroll’s Biggest Action Fantasy Returns With a Surprise Isekai Crossover Ahead of Season 3

Currently reigning as Crunchyroll’s standout action-fantasy series, Wistoria: Wand and Sword has officially been renewed for a third season. The continuation was greenlit alongside the thrilling season 2 finale this past June. The hit anime adapts the manga crafted by Fujino Omori—celebrated for creating the fantasy hit Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?—and illustrated by Aoi Toshi. Ever since its 2024 premiere, Wistoria has captivated audiences with its phenomenal world-building, compelling narrative, and breathtaking animation.

According to Mantan Web, the franchise recently crossed paths with Shangri-La Frontier, a massive isekai hit that originally launched on Crunchyroll before expanding to other platforms. Kodansha’s latest issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine showcased a special crossover visual starring the main characters of both properties. While Wistoria is serialized monthly in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, Shangri-La Frontier runs weekly under the same publisher. The magazine issue also contains an exclusive joint interview with the creators, though those details have not yet been translated for international audiences.

As of now, the upcoming continuation lacks an official premiere date or release window. When the renewal was first announced, producers dropped a promotional visual of Will Serfort surrounded by contrasting flowers, alongside a striking change in his eyes that may hint at an impending power-up. Given previous production timelines—where season 2 arrived nearly two years after the conclusion of season 1—fans might need to wait at least a couple of years for the series to return.

Because the original manga is published on a monthly schedule, the animation studio often requires extended time to accumulate enough source material for a full cour. This third outing will be particularly vital, especially with Will now stepping inside the formidable tower of the Magia Vander.

Even though Will has carved out a place among the kingdom’s elite spellcasters, his childhood vow to Elfaria remains unfulfilled. Both pledged to stand together as Magia Vander—a milestone Elfaria achieved six years prior, while Will initially struggled simply to graduate from the Magic Academy due to his total lack of innate magic. Stakes are bound to skyrocket in the next season as they draw closer to their ultimate destinies.

Furthermore, season 2 left viewers reeling from a massive cliffhanger revealing that the tragic events of the Terminalia were engineered by an internal traitor within the Academy. Alongside his quest for the top, Will must now unmask the mole. On top of that, the anime has only begun to unravel the mysteries of Will’s true heritage and his ultimate burden: protecting the world from the looming threat of the Celestial Beings.
