The latest trailer debuted at D23 gave fans a fresh look at Kingdom Hearts IV, highlighting an exciting new realm based on Pixar’s acclaimed film, Coco. The footage showcased familiar faces like Miguel and Papá Héctor in a vibrant musical sequence, alongside direct gameplay from the setting.
To match the aesthetic of the realm, Sora receives a unique visual makeover and a Coco-themed Keyblade. The trailer concludes with a tease of the broader narrative: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy are actively searching for Sora, who remains stranded in a realistic urban metropolis where he catches ghostly glimpses of his companions.
When Will Kingdom Hearts IV Be Released?
The D23 showcase finally put a timeframe on the sequel, confirming that Square Enix plans to release Kingdom Hearts IV in late 2027. Coming roughly eight years after Kingdom Hearts III, the long-awaited sequel will soon allow players to continue Sora’s journey across modern gaming platforms.
Kingdom Hearts Heads to Television With an Anime Adaptation
In an unexpected double-reveal, Disney used the D23 event to announce that the franchise is expanding to television with an official anime series heading to Disney Channel and Disney+.
Created in collaboration with franchise visionary Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix, the episodic series will offer a fresh spin on the overarching mythology of the games rather than serving as a direct, scene-for-scene adaptation.
An official premiere date for the Kingdom Hearts anime has not yet been revealed.
