The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the television anime adaptation of Nakashiwo and Noriko Ueno’s beloved picture book series Little Mouse’s Red Vest (Nezumi-kun no Chokki) has announced that a second season is officially on the way.
The new season is scheduled to premiere on NHK Educational on October 3 at 9:30 a.m. (or October 2 at 8:30 p.m. EDT). Voice actors Kenjirō Tsuda and Mamiko Noto will both be returning to reprise their roles for the upcoming episodes.
Based on the long-running picture book series launched in 1974, the story revolves around Nezumi-kun, a little mouse known for his signature red vest. To date, the franchise has grown to 43 volumes with over 5 million copies in circulation, written by Nakashiwo and illustrated by the late Noriko Ueno (who passed away in February 2019). The character previously inspired a 3D adaptation in the 2010 film Tobidasu Ehon 3D.
In the anime, Kenjirō Tsuda voices Nezumi-kun, while Mamiko Noto voices Nemi-chan. Notably, the two voice actors handle the vocal performances for every single character in the entire show.
Behind the scenes, Nobuyoshi Habara (Fafner, Broken Blade, Star Blazers 2202, My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s) is directing the series at Creadom8, with Kanemori Yasuda serving as both character designer and CG director.
The series previously debuted its 13-episode first season on NHK Educational, running from April 4 through June 27.
