Although Gege Akutami wrapped up the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga in September 2024, the television adaptation is still going strong. Following the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident Arc, the third season kicked off the sprawling Culling Game—a lethal, tournament-style bloodbath orchestrated by Kenjaku. As the series’ most extensive narrative arc, it introduces a massive wave of fresh faces.
Throughout the Culling Game, sorcerers are forced into relentless, high-stakes combat while simultaneously hunting for a way to break Satoru Gojo out of the Prison Realm. With the third season wrapping up its broadcast, a fourth season has officially been greenlit, promising even more chaos. While we wait for the next chapter of the adaptation to drop, here are three essential things you need to be aware of.
3) Season 4 Might Arrive Faster Than Anticipated
Historically, fans had to endure roughly a three-year gap between the second and third seasons. Such lengthy waits are standard for high-end anime productions, especially given the meticulous detail MAPPA invests in fluid fight choreography and breathtaking visuals—elements that have cemented the show’s massive global success. Even so, it looks like the studio is accelerating production significantly for the fourth outing.
While seasons past were typically split across two cours, the third run dialed it back with just a single cour of 12 episodes. Fortunately, the turnaround for the next batch of episodes is shaping up to be much shorter. Mere months after Season 3 concluded, MAPPA debuted the first teaser for Season 4 during their 15th-anniversary celebration. Specific plot details are still scarce, but Season 4 is slated to bring the sprawling Culling Game Arc to a close. The previous run left off on a tense note following Yuta Okkotsu’s fierce showdown in the Sendai Colony. Though Yuta successfully triumphed over Takako Uro, Ryu Ishigori, and a powerful special-grade curse, the dangers facing the cast are far from over. Beyond its impressive length, the Culling Game is packed with intricate subplots and dramatic twists planted earlier in the narrative.
Because this serves as the penultimate arc of the entire source material, viewers might even get a teaser of the final confrontation if the season ends on a cliffhanger. Furthermore, the true, catastrophic motives of Kenjaku and Ryomen Sukuna will finally come to light, revealing a scope of destruction few could have predicted.
1) Gojo’s Release Won’t Happen Right Away
Extracting Gojo from the Prison Realm was never going to be easy, and the modern era’s strongest sorcerer certainly couldn’t be liberated overnight. It took days of desperate searching just to figure out a method to free him, while the unrelenting chaos of the Culling Game continually derailed rescue efforts. In Gojo’s absence, the entire jujutsu society was thrown into turmoil, setting off a wave of devastating tragedies that the remaining sorcerers struggled to prevent.
As manga readers already know, Gojo’s seal finally breaks just as the Culling Game draws to a close. His triumphant return stands out as one of the most thrilling beats in the narrative and could very well serve as a high-impact moment for the Season 4 finale. Furthermore, his comeback paves the way for the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, where he faces off against the King of Curses in a monumental clash of titans.
