Created by Daisuke Ashihara, the manga originally kicked off in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013 before eventually relocating to Jump Square in 2018 following health-related interruptions. While the series boasts a dedicated fanbase, frequent publication breaks have unfortunately kept it from achieving mainstream blockbuster status.
Excitement surged last December when Toei Animation—the studio behind the original 2014 adaptation—announced an anime reboot. At the same time, the television adaptation has been on hiatus since Season 3 wrapped up in January 2022, with no official word yet on a fourth season. Ashihara’s ongoing health struggles continue to necessitate periodic breaks for the manga. After taking a month-long pause earlier this year in July, the series returned to publication in August accompanied by a personal message from the author.
World Trigger Creator Issues Apology Over Ongoing Breaks

In a recent author note, Ashihara addressed his schedule directly: “I’m sorry I keep taking months off, but next month’s break was preplanned. I’ll be working on finalizing the latest graphic novel.”
While patient fans rarely express frustration over the pacing of the hiatuses, Ashihara consistently expresses remorse when stepping away. He clarified that his latest scheduled pause is dedicated to wrapping up upcoming compiled book volumes. This does not necessarily signal an imminent series finale—as mangakas often spend years meticulously crafting their final story arcs—but it highlights the author’s steady progress behind the scenes.
Anime Reboot Takes Precedence Over World Trigger Season 4
Despite its brilliant premise, World Trigger initially struggled to capture mainstream momentum, largely due to the uneven production quality of its debut season. Running from 2014 to 2016, the original 73-episode run adapted roughly 120 chapters of the manga up through the B-Rank Wars Arc. The upcoming reboot is specifically designed to retell those early foundational events.
At present, there is no confirmation that the entire series will receive a comprehensive remake. Season 3 successfully brought the narrative near the conclusion of the B-Rank Wars, setting the stage for the massive Away Mission Test Arc next. Although the manga currently boasts a sufficient backlog of unadapted chapters for a fourth season, production priorities have temporarily shifted toward the upcoming reboot project.
