D23 has brought major announcements for fans of Kingdom Hearts, highlighted by a fresh trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, a targeted release window in late 2027, and the surprise reveal of an upcoming Disney+ anime series.
The latest footage confirms that Pixar’s Coco will be integrated into the game. Coinciding with this reveal, Disney also announced that Coco 2 is scheduled to hit theaters in November 2029.
The upcoming Kingdom Hearts anime project is being developed in collaboration with series creator Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix. It will introduce an original storyline designed to broaden the franchise’s lore while honoring the beloved characters that have resonated with millions globally.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, praised the unique fusion of adventure and imagination that defines the franchise, expressing enthusiasm for translating the interactive experience into an animated medium while staying true to Nomura’s vision.
These reveals preceded a dedicated Kingdom Hearts panel at D23. The livestreamed event, titled "DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS," offers behind-the-scenes insights into the franchise’s development. Fan anticipation for further Kingdom Hearts 4 updates remains high, largely due to the star-studded panel lineup.
Featured guests include Nana Gadd from Disney & Pixar Games, Square Enix’s Tai Yasue (widely believed to be the co-director of Kingdom Hearts 4), Sora voice actor Haley Joel Osment, Riku voice actor David Gallagher, and voice talent Renée Johnson.
Kingdom Hearts 4 previously generated excitement with a surprise gameplay showcase during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct. Square Enix has since confirmed that the action-RPG will launch simultaneously across multiple platforms, including PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Official descriptions for the sequel tease a continuation of protagonist Sora’s journey in the enigmatic city of Quadratum, where he will encounter new allies, unlock fresh abilities, and explore uncharted realms.
