Good news for fans of Night City: the wait to return is almost over. The second season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners officially drops on Netflix on October 20. To celebrate the announcement, Netflix and Studio Trigger have rolled out a fresh trailer. True to form, the dystopian metropolis looks just as brutal and heartbreaking as ever, packed with the signature violence fans have come to expect.
Edgerunners 2 introduces an entirely new cast of characters, moving away from the faces we knew in the first outing. The story centers on Roman, a young protagonist obsessed with capturing the grim realities of Night City through his camera lens. Things kick off when Roman accidentally records something he was never meant to see, setting in motion a harrowing 10-episode arc.
Attendees at Anime Expo in July got an early look at the premiere, with James Galizio noting that the new season opts for a much more grounded, personal narrative compared to its predecessor.
Edgerunners never sugarcoated how harshly Night City treats its residents, but David Martinez’s meteoric rise still carried a certain romantic flair. Ahead of the Anime Expo 2026 debut of season two’s opener, CD Projekt made their creative direction clear: while the first season channeled the energy of a blockbuster action movie, the follow-up aims for a more cinematic, character-driven tone reminiscent of Martin Scorsese. Rather than a breakneck thrill ride, it delivers a gritty, down-to-earth exploration of Night City’s inhabitants. According to the RPG developer, the overarching vision for the anime is to treat each season like an independent Cyberpunk tabletop campaign rather than a traditional, continuous narrative.
With Cyberpunk 2 still a long way off, this upcoming season should give franchise fans plenty to sink their teeth into in the meantime.
