‘Fool Night’ Anime Adaptation Sets Official Netflix Release Date, First Trailer & Images Revealed

The upcoming anime adaptation of Kasumi Yasuda’s manga Fool Night, brought to life through a joint effort by studios Sunrise and Shaft, is shaping up to be one of the year’s most fascinating releases. Netflix has officially confirmed that the series will debut globally on November 26, 2026. Alongside this premiere date, a fresh English-dubbed trailer has dropped, accompanied by new promotional imagery and a special featurette spotlighting director Atsushi Yukawa and animation producers Ryusuke Suzuki (Shaft) and Yoshihiro Iwata (Sunrise).

Fool Night is an anticipated Japanese Netflix Original anime based on Kasumi Yasuda’s manga, Fūru Naito, which was first teased at Annecy. Helmed by director Atsushi Yukawa (Space Dandy), the project represents a major creative partnership between Sunrise and Shaft.

New Fool Night first-look images & featurette

A behind-the-scenes featurette has also been unveiled, featuring director Atsushi Yukawa alongside animation producers Yoshihiro Iwata (Sunrise) and Ryusuke Suzuki (Shaft).

Discussing the series, director Atsushi Yukawa shared his creative perspective:

“Even when people are at their lowest, they strive to stay strong. Perhaps no one can definitively say what is right or wrong, but the sheer will to keep living is what fascinates me. We felt that the harsher a scene is, the more visually stunning it needs to be. There is a unique sorrow and poignancy to this setting, and we wanted audiences to genuinely feel that underlying atmosphere pulsing beneath the artwork.”

Yoshihiro Iwata, animation producer at Sunrise, expressed high praise for the cross-studio collaboration:

“This is a deeply vibrant project, which made it quite a hurdle. While we at Sunrise were confident in our ability to deliver the dramatic elements, Shaft did an exceptional job handling the distinctive color palette. We believed that combining the strengths of both Sunrise and Shaft would multiply the project’s impact twofold or even threefold. Across the direction, music, and visuals, we feel we’ve hit a high watermark of artistic quality. I hope viewers are eagerly anticipating it.”

Ryusuke Suzuki, animation producer at Shaft, touched upon the distinct difficulties of adapting a narrative set almost entirely in the dark:

“Crafting a story that takes place entirely at night is quite rare, so we embraced the challenge of bringing that dark universe to life. Since total darkness is the baseline, our focus was on using light strategically and tailoring the color script to match the characters’ emotional states. The themes can get quite heavy, but we still wanted viewers to appreciate the beauty of the visuals. That was a continuous point of discussion with the director as production moved forward.”

Has the English voice cast been revealed?

Even with the arrival of an official English trailer, details regarding the English dub voice cast remain under wraps. Sharp-eared fans might recognize a familiar voice or two, but an official roster has not yet been published.

At present, the only confirmed voice talent attached to the project are for the Japanese dub, featuring Minako Kotobuki as Yomiko Horai and Kouki Uchiyama as Toshiro Kamiya.
