Even though Attack on Titan officially wrapped up its story in 2023, fans might not be entirely out of the woods yet when it comes to the series’ trademark heartbreak. WIT Studio has teased that an Attack on Titan announcement is on the way for August 20, accompanied by a mysterious message: “It seems that they, during ‘that period,’ will be holding a special dinner.”
The teaser was shared alongside promotional artwork featuring Eren, Armin, Mikasa, Levi, Hange, and Erwin. The visual is credited to manga creator Hajime Hajime, publisher Kodansha, and the Attack on Titan The Final Season Production Committee—the team behind the sprawling, multi-part anime conclusion.
The upcoming reveal comes as a surprise for a couple of reasons. First, the main anime series has already fully adapted the manga, culminating in the recent compilation film The Last Attack, which combined the final two television specials with new footage.
Additionally, the teaser originates from WIT Studio, which hasn’t been the primary animation studio for the franchise since 2019. While WIT handled the show’s first 59 episodes, MAPPA took over production for the Final Season from 2020 to 2023, while WIT shifted focus to projects like Spy x Family and Ranking of Kings.
However, a new project aligns with hints dropped last year by producer Tetsuya Kinoshita. During the premiere of the Attack on Titan – The Official Concert – Beyond the Walls World Tour, he noted that the team plans to keep the franchise alive through films akin to Last Attack, ongoing concerts, and gaming collaborations. While Attack on Titan 3 is slated for release on December 10, no new anime projects have been officially confirmed—until now.
As for the cryptic teaser text, the mention of a “special dinner” could be a nod to the series’ recurring themes of cannibalism. The phrase “that period” leaves the timeline ambiguous, though the promotional image suggests a potential prequel set prior to the Final Season, back when all six featured characters were still alive. Fans will have to wait until next Thursday to discover what’s truly in store.
