Korean digital content provider RIDI has announced plans to shut down Kanta, its short-form live-action service in Japan, as the company shifts its strategic focus.

Initially rolled out in July 2025, Kanta specialized in bite-sized dramas adapted from Korean media. However, RIDI stated that it is winding down the platform to redirect its efforts toward its core fan community ecosystem, which centers on comics, webtoons, and web novels in a fast-evolving global marketplace.
Despite closing the app, RIDI intends to leverage the audience insights and production experience gained from Kanta to grow its intellectual property portfolio and reinforce related ventures. The company will also look into alternative applications for the IP assets gathered during the platform’s run.
