Here is how Tapas summarizes the plot:
This game’s got me obsessed! It’s like it’s taken over my life… wait—HARD MODE ACTIVATED. No-no-no-no-no! It has literally taken me and thrown me into the part of Penelope Eckhart. Love is easy as the heroine, but as the hated villain, I’m trying very hard not to die… at the hands of my brothers… the prince… a fork… every possible ending is death! This world is stacked against me, but can my wits and insider game knowledge score the affection of these male characters? Or the reset button???
Originally born from a web novel penned by Gwon Gyeoeul, Villains Are Destined to Die stands as a prominent entry in the beloved reincarnated-villainess romance fantasy subgenre. It quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the most-read webcomics on South Korea’s Kakao Page. The source novel boasts over 1.7 million views and 145,000 likes, while the webtoon adaptation has amassed more than 14.8 million views and 1.5 million likes.
Debuting in 2020, the webtoon reached its milestone 214th chapter and concluded its main narrative on Kakao Page in South Korea this past July. Creators plan to take a brief hiatus before returning with a spinoff series. Meanwhile, English readers can catch up via Tapas, which has serialized the story up to Chapter 210.
In Japan, Piccoma distributes both the manga and novel adaptations by Gwon Gyeoeul. Kadokawa published the inaugural compiled manga volume in March 2022 and has scheduled the release of the 12th volume for November 17.
The franchise has also established a strong physical presence in English markets thanks to Ize Press. The publisher is rolling out the novel in a five-volume collection spanning print, eBook, and audio formats, with the fourth volume due out on September 15.
Continuing to prove its massive global appeal, the webtoon adaptation remains among Ize Press’ best-selling titles. The publisher is set to release the ninth volume of the webtoon on August 18.
