Toyotarou, who took over the Dragon Ball Super manga following Akira Toriyama’s passing in 2024, has finally given fans a glimpse of Vegeta’s mother. Nearly 40 years after the Saiyan Prince first debuted in the franchise, her appearance has been teased in a brand-new alternate cover for volume 19.
Prince Vegeta first appeared in the manga on November 7, 1988, in Chapter 10 of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Z, titled “Farewell, Son Goku.” His immense popularity during the 1989 Saiyan Invasion arc convinced Toriyama to keep him around permanently, launching one of the greatest rivalries and partnerships in anime history.
Over the decades, fans have been introduced to his father, King Vegeta; his future son, Trunks; his present-day son, also named Trunks; his daughter, Bulla; and his long-lost brother, Tarble. Yet, despite all this family history, Vegeta’s mother had remained a total mystery, with no mentions of her fate or appearance.

Now, fans can finally catch a partial reflection of her. Reflected in a puddle beneath the foreground characters, we can see her hairstyle and outfit. While King Vegeta’s cape conveniently blocks her face, it is still the closest look at the character the franchise has ever provided.
Drawn by Toyotarou himself, the artwork was published on the official Dragon Ball website following the conclusion of the “My Favorite Cover Poll.” This marks the second alternate version of the volume 19 cover. The original release featured Goku alongside a mirrored image of his parents, while the first alternate version showed Gohan with Goku and Chi-Chi reflected in reverse.
That established pattern is how we know the mysterious woman is indeed Vegeta’s mother. On the previous volume 19 covers, Chi-Chi’s mirrored counterpart is Gine (Goku’s mother), and Pan’s counterpart is Chi-Chi—meaning the mirrored figures represent each character’s mother-in-law. Following that exact logic, Bulma’s mirrored counterpart must be her mother-in-law: Vegeta’s mother.
If any further confirmation was needed, the obscured woman’s outfit proudly bears the crest of the Vegeta Royal Family. With her existence finally acknowledged, fans are hoping she might make a proper appearance in the manga whenever the series eventually returns from its current hiatus.
