The acclaimed 1997 psychological horror masterpiece, Perfect Blue, is officially heading to Netflix on September 1, 2026! The story follows Mima Kirigoe, a popular J-Pop idol who trades the music stage for an acting career, only to find herself terrorized by a dangerous stalker. As a series of brutal murders unfolds around her, Mima slowly loses her grip on reality.

Released in 1997, Perfect Blue is a landmark Japanese psychological horror anime film inspired loosely by Yoshikazu Takeuchi’s novel, Perfect Blue: Complete Metamorphosis. The movie was helmed by visionary director Satoshi Kon, featuring a screenplay by Sadayuki Murai and brought to life by the legendary Tokyo-based animation powerhouse, Madhouse.

Seeking to reinvent herself, Mima steps away from her successful idol group to dive into serious acting, landing an edgy role in a television crime thriller. Her transition deeply provokes a deranged stalker. Soon, a chilling online diary impersonates her every move, and violent crimes begin to pile up. Mima’s perception fractures entirely, dissolving the boundaries between actual events, terrifying hallucinations, and fiction.
